Beaverton and Journey were a perfect fit from the beginning. Sonni & Darcey met in Beaverton, OR in 2005 at a national payroll company and went on to work together throughout the years while maintaining their business roots in Oregon. Together they have over 50 plus years in payroll experience. With that experience they have learned the value of customer service in the payroll world which leads perfectly into the Journey philosophy that no client is a number resonated with us!   • Sonni Leatherwood

    Managing Partner

    Sonni is a self-described Oregonian. Her payroll career started in bookkeeping, as she reconciled transactions for a handful of different companies. While she was overseeing a group of more than 20 people, a copier salesperson was drawn to her outgoing personality and began recruiting her. After transitioning into the copier sales role, Sonni realized she looked forward to getting outside the confines of the office and enjoyed seeing clients each day. Eventually, she had an opportunity to combine her sales skills with her accounting background, which landed her an interview with a large payroll company. Her career quickly moved forward, and she became the Sales Director at BenefitMall for Oregon and Washington. While there, she managed two award-winning sales teams and was recognized year over year as a Circle Qualifier and Sales Director of the Year.

    Work-life balance is important to Sonni. Away from the office, you will find Sonni camping, hiking, and enjoying outdoor activities. On top of that, she loves to spend time with her 118-pound Great Dane, GeeGee. Let’s not forget Sonni’s wonderful daughter, who is now old enough to be out in the world on her own — although it doesn’t stop the two of them from spending quality time together.

    Sonni’s payroll knowledge combined with her dedication and loyalty to her clients is what makes her a great fit for Journey.

  • Darcey Dearden

    Managing Partner

    Darcey began her payroll career right out of high school, manually processing payroll for several small businesses. Before long, she was working for Paychex in SoCal, where she stayed for 3 years. After that, she moved to Beaverton, OR, where she spent 9 years, repeatedly qualifying for Conference and Circle of Excellence. Eventually, Darcey made a move to CompuPay (BenefitMall), opening the Oregon office in 2008 and building a team, starting with only 15 clients. In 2013, she moved to Dallas, TX to build and develop the payroll division team for BenefitMall. In 2016, Darcey joined TASC, becoming the RVP for the SW territory, managing a team of 14 sales reps across 6 states.

    While Darcey is dedicated to her career, her family and friends are her life. Her 31-year-old son, Victor, lives in Beaverton, her mom lives in Bullhead City, AZ, and her sister lives in her hometown of Apple Valley, CA. Although her family is spread out among the Western states, it’s a family tradition to reunite every year at Christmas. As hobbies, she enjoys Pilates, reading, and traveling.

    Darcey is uplifted by the positivity and enthusiasm of the Journey team, and is excited to re-unite with her referral network in Beaverton and continue building relationships.

What I like about working with Darcey and Journey Payroll & HR is the incredibly quick response time for any kind of question or issue.

For example, recently when our paychecks ended up in Kentucky (which is no one's fault) Darcey gave a few options to get my people paid ASAP, but even better, Sonni her local partner hand-delivered checks. That was amazing customer service.
