EEOC Hikes Penalty for Poster Violations

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has released a final rule that hikes the penalty from $210 to $525 for employers that violate posting requirements under federal nondiscrimination laws. The required poster, titled “Equal Employment Opportunity Is the Law,” informs employees and applicants of protections under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. The penalty can be assessed if employers don’t display the poster in “prominent and accessible places” where notices to workers are customarily maintained. For related information, see chapter Federal Posting Requirements.
